September 23,2021
Today the NBL-US announced their 2021 Post Season Awards.
Just as predicted in the Preseason Kevin Waters https://basketball.usbasket.com/coach/Kevin-Waters/Jacksonville_Giants/15098 led the Fort Lauderdale Herd to the Eastern Conference Championship in the Herd's first season in the NBL-US.
Waters is no stranger to Minor League Basketball leading the Jacksonville Giants to multiple championships in the American Basketball Association (ABA). In his return to Minor League basketball he put a dominate Fort Lauderdale Herd team together that went 9-1 in the regular season.
Waters was the NBL-US preseason pick for Coach of the Year and he did not disappoint on the sidelines as players gave him great reviews on his coaching style being a players coach.
Jerry Dancer https://basketball.usbasket.com/player/Jerry-Dancer/NBL-US/East-Houston-United/384210 was named MVP/ Defensive Player of the Year for the first time in his storied minor league basketball career. The Waco, Texas native broke his own three point record knocking down eleven three pointers shattering his own record from the 2020 season when he hit seven three pointers against the same Bexar County Bucs team.
Dancer also broke the NBL-US scoring record scoring 51 points when the United needed it the most. Dancer was also called on all season to guard the best player on the opposing team holding some of the top scorers in the league below their season average.
Dancer was the leader of a United team that went undefeated for a second straight season winning back to back NBL-US Championships.
When asked about winning MVP and Defensive Player of the Year Dancer was quoted as saying " I set a goal at the beginning of the season to win defensive player of the year. I took pride in shutting down the opposing teams best player. I've been known to get buckets but this year, I got buckets and made sure the guy I was guarding didn't get his". "If you don't work, you don't get rewarded"
